This programme is for you if you are experiencing health anxiety or a crisis of confidence in your body's ability to recover from a significant illness.
This programme is also for you if you are experiencing Long Covid, CFS, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). If you have had all the tests but everything is coming back normal. This can often indicate that your symptoms, although very real - are neuroplastic in nature.
Neuroplastic symptoms arise when your brain has become hypersensitive to perceived threats and starts to associate certain activities or even emotions as dangerous. The symptoms are very real - the brain is creating them as a danger signal in order to protect you just as it creates pain or fatigue when we sprain an ankle or catch the virus.
This work is to turn down the danger responce in your brain and nervous system so you can get your life back.
Reducing neuroplastic symptoms of chronic fatigue and pain and conditions such as fibromyalgia and irritable bowel syndrome is possible but it takes commitment, support and time. Thousands of people, including myself, have recovered with the mind body approaches used in my programme.
The 12 week Ease from chronic fatigue and pain follows the same format as the 6 week Return to Ease but provides more support. It also has a strong focus on brain retraining around your symptoms, safe expansion of activity and redefining your goals. It is based on 5 modules outlined below.
1. Come out of survival mode
Before anything else, we work on helping your body feel less like you're bracing for the next thing. When your nervous system is no longer stuck in stress mode, something shifts — your energy returns, your mind gets clearer, and you stop feeling so easily triggered or overwhelmed. This is the foundation that makes the deeper work of the following sessions possible.
You'll come away understanding:
Why your body reacts the way it does — and how stress shows up as physical symptoms
Your own patterns: what sends you into overdrive (or shutdown), and why
Practical tools to release tension and stress from your body, so you feel calmer and more energised day to day.
2. Build your emotional wellbeing
You learn how to attend to your emotions rather than being controlled by them. This includes:
What emotions are and how they affect your wellbeing
How to process and release difficult emotions along with the outdated mental stories that influence them.
3. Address limiting beliefs & personality traits
You will learn how your thoughts and beliefs can keep you stuck, how to get unstuck and how to avoid returning to old (stress and illness ) patterns. You will:
Identify your common thinking errors and how to interrupt them
Identify, challenge and reframe your autonomic negative thoughts
Identify personality traits contributing to your stress, symptoms or inability to create changes in your life
Learn how to create and enforce healthy boundaries.
4. Overcome fear of symptoms
This module is for people experiencing physical stress-related symptoms. Neuroscience has discovered that the brain can create symptoms including pain and fatigue as a response to perceived danger even when there is no damage or illness in your body. In this module you will:
Learn how the brain creates physical symptoms even when there is no damage to your body
Understand why fear of physical symptoms creates more symptoms
Master brain retraining tools to break out of the symptom fear attention loop.
5. Redefine your goals
In this final coaching phase you can examine and redefine your values and goals. Now that you have become more regulated, and aware of those thoughts and behavioral patterns that were holding you back, you have the clarity and space to reevaluate who you really want to be and how you want to live in this world.
